Extensive Definition

Cyclohexanol is a secondary alcohol, formula C6H11OH, consisting of a cyclohexane ring with one hydrogen substituent replaced by a hydroxyl group .
It can be oxidized to cyclohexanone by chromic acid (formed by dissolving sodium dichromate in water and concentrated sulfuric acid). The oxidation will stop at cyclohexanone, as a stronger oxidizing agent is required to break the carbon bond.
